I asked the other Emily in my crew if she knew where "the proof is in the pudding" comes from and she said she was pretty sure she'd read it somewhere recently. After a few minutes of racking her brains she pulled out the copy of Don Quixote she finished reading a couple weeks ago and found it! Except it's a little different, it's more like "the proof of the pudding is in the eating." So there you have it. I don't know if that's where it originated, but at least it's a step!
