First I’d like to start by telling everyone how I got involved with such an exciting event. I had come in contact with Dr. McConnel towards the end of my last semester at Bucknell this past spring. After a great conversation he got me in touch with Frank who told me all about the race logistics and the people involved. After telling me all about the race, Frank asked if I would be interested in joining them on their journey across country. Without hesitation I said yes, even though I had a job with Price Waterhouse Coopers lined up to begin in September.
I contact PwC and told them all about the race and asked for an extension to my start date. I told them how much doing this would mean to me and how it truly was one of those “once in a lifetime” opportunities. After about a week, PwC got back to me and allowed me to begin in October! Since I have been in contact with Frank and the team very regularly and have honestly blown away by all the work that is going into this event. It seems like every new phone call or email I get about the race has something new and very exciting to add to this trip that I can’t stop thinking about every day.
One of the main reasons I was so interested in this race was due to the cause we are raising money for. Sure, it’s incredible that I’ll have the chance to go across the country, and being an active cyclist/triathlete for a few years now it was something that immediately caught my eye. However, growing in a single parent home that would have had no way for both me and my sister to pay for college really made me appreciate the opportunity to go to a school I immediately fell in love with all because of the scholarship money I received. Without the financial help from Bucknell, who knows where I’d be right now. It is something I’ll always be grateful for, and something I feel very strongly towards to raise money for students in similar situations as myself.
